To fully support the Country’s "3060 Dual Carbon Targets" and the HKSAR Government’s “Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050” carbon reduction strategy, China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (hereafter referred to as “CSHK” and the "company") today hosted the “CSHK Clean Energy Plan Activation cum Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony”. Through the MoU signing with Sinopec (Hong Kong) Limited ("Sinopec HK”) and BYD(H.K.) Co., Ltd. (“BYD”), CSHK made three major carbon reduction commitments to promote the use of clean energy and to spearhead the transformation to low-carbon operations in the construction sector. The event was attended by guests from industry associations, professional organizations and industry partners, and was officiated by Mr Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the HKSAR Government.
In his welcoming speech, Secretary for Environment and Ecology Mr Tse Chin-wan said, “To support the Country’s Dual Carbon Targets, the HKSAR endeavors to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. The commitment to achieve carbon neutrality requires the concerted efforts by the Government and the business community. I am glad to see the efforts by CSHK and its partnering organizations Sinopec HK and BYD to promote the development of green transportation and to reduce the environmental impact of construction works, which are in line with the HKSAR Government’s “Hong Kong's Climate Action Plan 2050” and Hong Kong’s goal to achieve zero vehicle emissions and carbon neutrality by2050.”
“Three Commitments” to promote clean energy use
During the event, CSHK announced its latest sustainability strategy and as part of its “CSHK Clean Energy Plan” initiative, the Company made three carbon reduction commitments: first, by 2035, all vehicles including saloon cars and small construction vehicles used in construction sites of CSHK will be replaced by electric vehicles (EVs); second, actively explore the first hydrogen power pilot program in Hong Kong’s construction sector and the use of hydrogen energy generation in construction sites; third, explore the first clean energy construction site in Hong Kong and the use of clean energy sources including electricity, solar power and hydrogen power in day-to-day operations, making CSHK the first company in the construction sector to make concrete commitment on clean energy usage.

Forging alliances with industry partners to promote low-carbon construction and cultivate a greener Hong Kong
CSHK has entered into an MOU with global new energy vehicles brand BYD and made the first procurement of over 20 EVs from BYD as patrol vehicles. A momentous handover ceremony marked this milestone. CSHK will continue to promote the use of EVs in its construction sites and to foster a low-carbon construction industry. Additionally, CSHK has signed an MoU with Sinopec (Hong Kong) to pioneer hydrogen energy generation technology in the construction sector. This initiative aligns with the city’s "Hong Kong Climate Action Plan 2050" carbon reduction strategy and serves to promote the utilisation of clean energy.
Furthermore, CSHK is actively driving the adoption of electrified small and medium-sized machinery, continuously evaluating the potential expansion of their use to a broader range of construction sites. The company is also gradually shifting towards to more environmentally-friendly power generation methods, such as biodiesel, rechargeable power generators and the introduction of hydrogen energy generation. Currently, CSHK is conducting trials with a 21-tonne electric excavator and a 50-tonne electric rubber tyre crane. Additionally, the company is implementing various energy saving measures, including the deployment of renewable energy systems, the enforcement of a company-wide energy saving manual, and the installation of smart electric panels at site offices for real-time monitoring of electricity consumption and distribution.
To showcase CSHK's use of innovative solutions in the low-carbon transformation of the construction industry, representatives from China State Hailong Construction Technology Company Limited, Transcendence Company Limited, and Far East Façade (Hong Kong) Limited of China State Construction Development Holdings Limited were invited to participate in a sharing session, where they provided insights in the practical application of latest technologies including Modular Integrated Construction (MiC), C-SMART site integrated management platform, and the use of environmentally-friendly construction materials such as Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) . These examples serve to demonstrate how the industry can collaboratively strive towards sustainable development.
CSHK Debuts P.E.A.K. Sustainability Philosophy
As part of its commitment to promoting green construction and sustainable development, CSHK announced for the first time at the event its sustainability philosophy: P.E.A.K.. The P.E.A.K philosophy actively responds to the country's Carbon Peak target by 2030, while highlighting our People-oriented approach and the company’s care for our staff and workers. CSHK is mindful of the community and innovates in low-carbon construction solutions that are friendly to our Environment; the company actively builds Alliance with the academia and partners in the supply chain; and that it strives to build more Key Projects for Hong Kong to contribute to Hong Kong goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
As a non-listed company, CSHK has proactively published a sustainability report for three consecutive years since 2019, and an ESG report for the year 2022 will soon be made available. The Company is also using the Organic Resources Recovery Centre Phase 2 (O·PARK2) as the first pilot project in our country that aims to achieve carbon neutrality during the construction period. Promoting the use of new energy and reducing carbon emissions aligns with the worldwide sustainable development trend. In the future, CSHK will invest further resources to promote low-carbon construction, contributing to the development of a livable Hong Kong and the protection of the global environment.

For the first time, CSHK has purchased more than 20 electric vehicles from BYD for the use on construction sites in Hong Kong. At the launching ceremony of the " China State Construction Hong Kong Clean Energy Programme", representatives from China State Hailong Construction Technology Company Limited, Transcendence Company Limited, and Far East Façade (Hong Kong) Limited shared their company's practice of applying low carbon technology and smart technology, joining hands to contribute to the sustainable development` of the construction industry.
Various exhibition booths were set up at the ceremony to showcase latest industry solutions including MiC, MiMEP, smart construction project management platform and low carbon construction materials.
